12th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B, 21st June 2015

Be quiet! Be still!

Jesus says “ Be quiet!” I try to still my body and my mind as I read calmly the rich texts for this Sunday.

God answers Job in the poetic 1st Reading stating that only he has the power to control the tumultuous seas.

We see this power when Jesus calms the wind and the sea in the Gospel, filling the disciples with awe and leaving them questioning his identity.

The verses chosen from Psalm 106 follow the same theme. It is a song of thanksgiving for the saving power of God, in this case from the dangerous sea.

St Paul in the 2nd Reading is overwhelmed with gratitude for Christ who, in his love, has saved us and made us a ‘new creation’.
